Raised expectations

Parents may have their own vocations, hobbies etc. But I guess many of them get worked into corners where every activity in their life is centered around their children. Determined by their children’s activities. Once this cause is removed or altered, they suffer. Substitutes automatically crowd in to fill this emptiness as they always do, but substitutes almost always come with unreasonable expectations (say, fantasising about their children’s lives). While this can be true in any other relationship, its perhaps most justifiable in a parent-child relationship. And hence, they must be carefully catered to, on a case by case basis.
