Vaaranam Aayiram

Gautham Menon has a long way to go, in making convincing drama. Vaaranam Aayiram is not anywhere near his slick thrillers –  KK, VV or PKMC. Very little depth in characters, an inability to communicate the emotions of its protagonist to the viewer are problems that plague this botched attempt. Perhaps, it shows how this genre is as much about substance as it is about style. The attempted theme is evident, ofcourse – a growing up tale – of the typical Indian youngster trying to realize all his dreams, coming to terms with life with the help of a loving family, and eventually finding his ‘meaning’ in life. There can easily be better expositions of that, Mr.Menon.
