A typical talk from a typical conference? ;)

What starts out as a interesting talk from an academic perspective, goes onto emphasize the importance of this world view to very practical global issues like global warming.

We got round to testing, say, Newton’s law of gravity a few hundred years ago, but the evidence that we used to test it had already been inundating every square metre of the surface of the Earth for billions of years before that, and will continue to do so for billions of years hence.

The talk also emphasizes the modern scientific view of the purpose of humanity (purpose that we have been seeking so desperately at all the wrong places), that of pursuit of knowledge. Don’t miss the last few minutes of that talk.

The transcript of the talk, incase you need it.
